OVERVIEW
All Schoolreach teams are entitled to play in the League. Performance in the BC League does not determine who qualifies for the National tournament. However, the League standings will be used in seeding teams during the Provincial tournament. The provincial tournamnet is the only qualifier for the Nationals.
SPECIFIC RULES
In league games, a team may play with under 4 players. For assigned questions, missing players will automatically forfeit their assigned question.
For example, if Team A has 2 players and team B has 4 players, then only the first two assigned questions are asked to Team A's players. Questions 3 and 4 automatically get passed over to Team B.
For Team B's questions, only their first two questions would pass over to Team A if answered incorrectly. Questions 3 and 4, if answered incorrectly by Team B, do NOT pass over.
GAME PROCEDURE
- Check yours schedule to see who your school plays; (you may play different schools in Senior and Intermediate leagues).
- Away team contacts Home team to organize game.
- If Away team wants to play the game in-person, then the Home team must accommodate them.
- If Away team is unable to play in person, then they can choose to play virtually using BuzzIn.live. Please try to play in person as much as possible. Home team can always volunteer to travel to Away game, if they are generous.
- Games that are not played result in a forfeit. Team that refuses to play is the forfeiting team. If neither team is cited as the one refusing to play, then both teams forfeit. A forefeit counts as a loss in the standings and zero points contribute to the average points in league standings.
- After the game, coaches must contact the coordinator with the score of the game. Scores should be multiples of 10 (e.g. A vs B: 330-290 not A vs B: 33-29).
- In case of a tie, use tie-breakers. First team to answer a tie-breaker wins. Do not add tie-breakers to point tally. Record scores by identifying winner with letters tb next to score. (e.g. A vs B: 330(tb)-330)
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
- Teams play two games against every conference opponent. Additional games may be played against non-conference opponents.
- Teams are ranked by win-loss record AGAINST CONFERENCE OPPONENTS ONLY.
- Tie breakers are, in order: head-to-head win-loss record, head-to-head points average, conference point average.
- A forfeit counts as a loss. A win by forfeit counts as a win. The winning team is awarded the average of all their non-forfeit wins that season. The top team in each conference and division are their champions, respectively.
LEAGUE STANDINGS
- The top ranked teams in each conference are compared on average points in ALL games (both conference and non-conference).
- If teams have played head-to-head, then team with better head-to-head results (win-loss then points) is ranked higher. If they have not played or the head-to-head is tied:
- The team with the higher average points is ranked number 1 overall. The runner-up in its conference is then compared with the second-ranked team in the other conference.
- The team with the higher average points between the two is ranked number 2 overall.
- This process continues until all teams are ranked.
- It is theoretically possible that all teams from one Conference could be ranked higher than all teams from the other.
- League rankings will determine seeding in the Provincial Tournament
CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
- At the end of the first nine weeks of play, teams from the two conferences will play each other based on ranking in their respective conferences.
- The top-ranked team in Inlet will play the top-ranked team in Metro. THE WINNER OF THIS TWO-PACK GAME WILL BE CROWNED LEAGUE CHAMPION.
- The second-ranked team in Inlet will play the second-ranked team in Metro, and so on.
- The higher-ranked team will be HOME in these games.
